Recently, Handi-Lift installed a turning inclined platform lift on the front steps of Saint Cecilia’s Church in Manhattan. We used the Garaventa Artira model to accommodate the unique conditions of the location. The lift is located on the stairs leading to the entrance to the left of the main doors. The rails are tower mounted with a total of 12 towers. The lift platform turns 90 degrees at the lower landing before traveling straight up the stairs. How the rails connect to the drive box is a key feature of this project. At the upper landing, the rails curve down and penetrate through the stairs to connect to the drive box which is hidden under the stairs. The platform is stored at the lower landing. The lift was painted black to match the existing fences and railings.
