53 Beach Street in Manhattan is a landmark building being retrofitted into residential apartment units.
Rand Engineering contacted Handi-Lift to provide accessibility from the street level to the first floor. The lift provided is a Garaventa Genensis Enclosure style vertical platform lift. Handi-Lift followed the requirements set by the NYC Landmarks Presevation Commission, including clear safety laminated glass panels in the landing gates
and enclosure. The lift is also powder coated with a custom color. DeBono Brothers Builders, the General Contractors on this project, provided the custom diamond plate infill panel for the lower landing door, which matches the existing metal finishes.
In addition to matching the diamond plate style in the existing structures, the Handi-Lift team worked with Rand Engineering to design the lift to fit into the loading dock and not extend beyond it. Other interesting features of this project include the lower landing call station, the disconnect switch and manual lower box locations, and conceal piping for both call stations.
