Handi-Lift recently installed two straight inclined platform lifts at two houses right next door to each other in the Bronx. Both wheelchair lifts are Garaventa Xpress II models. One lift serves a six-riser stairway, while the other serves a seven-riser stairway. Both lifts travel down from street level with platform storage at the bottom landing. Tower-mounted rails support each lift. Wireless call stations, keypad locks, and automatic door openers work together so that the building door opens automatically when a lift reaches the bottom landing. The standard Silver Moon finish was selected to coordinate with the stairs.

The original staircases were only half their current width—too narrow for inclined platform lifts—while the adjacent spaces were too small for vertical lifts. Widening the stairs created enough room for the installations. Consulting Handi-Lift before remodeling can help property owners coordinate accessibility requirements with the construction plan and avoid remodeling the same area twice.
